Shawn Diez, MA, LPC
ASPEN program director
Shawn Diez is the Director of the ASPEN Program and has worked with children of all ages and their families for the past three decades. He earned his masters in counseling from Western in 2001 and brings 24 years of experience as a licensed school counselor, having served in both elementary and middle schools across school districts in Redmond, Sisters, and outside of Portland. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field, Shawn was named the Oregon Middle School Counselor of the Year in 2007 and this past year led his school to be one of six in Oregon to achieve the prestigious RAMP (Recognized ASCA National Model Program) award. He has been in private practice for the past five years and is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists.
As a therapist, Shawn’s approach centers on the following beliefs: everyone is doing the best they can with the circumstances they are in, and everyone has within themselves the resources they need to live the life they want. His strength lies in building a trusting, collaborative, therapeutic relationship where he guides and empowers clients to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. As a director, Shawn uses his calm presence, strong organization and communication skills, and dedication to collaboratively guide a team of clinicians to provide compassionate, effective treatment for the children and their families in our community.
In his free time he enjoys hiking with his wife, and their four legged son, Oliver, a golden doodle, riding his mountain bike with friends, finding time to keep up with his adult children, and exploring the great outdoors on land, water or snow. Sisters has been home for the past 18 years and is grateful to be close to the mountains where he feels grounded and happy.
